Opening (May 13th, 2010), Stern Gallery
Dowry- Hagit Shahal Inspired, Stern Art Gallery, from 7 pm

In this show, Hagit Shahal, a contemporary artist, forms a dialogue with chosen classic paintings form the gallery collection.
In a process of deconstruction and reconstruction, moving backwards and forward in time into her ancestral and artistic heritage, Shahal has created a new body of work that corresponds with the classic artworks she regards as a symbolic dowry.
The reference to existing paintings as sources of inspiration deepened Shahals’ research and observation into her own themes - intimate objects, portraits and light.
The sources of an artists’ inspiration are mostly concealed, as is the whole creative process. The beauty of this exhibition is that the sources are exposed, therefore, enabling a broad discourse regarding the notion of inspiration.

The second sort of look is the internal one that is reflected in Carmela Garcia’s and Melanie Manchot’s works, who use the photographic practice to examine the personal and the private, while dealing with issues of femininity and intimacy.
